Fun in First!

Another awesome week in room 307! We compared the lengths of our arms and legs, learned what it means to measure, identified the main idea and supporting details of an informational text, completed some math assessments, had a birthday and some more lunch bunches... Aaaaand a show and tell day (as a PROWL reward)! Phewwww... Are you tired, yet?!

I loved seeing those that made it out to Vance Movie Night on Saturday! What a beeeeautiful evening for some family fun!

I'm excited to end this quarter with a bang! Here's to a super week!!!

Busy being Busy!

Wow! What another wonderful week we had! It was filled with all sorts of learning and fun. In math, we worked on finding the different partners of 20. Partners are numbers that work together to make a total. 10 &10, 17 & 3, 5 & 15 are just a few partners of 20. We also continued to solve addition and subtraction problems. We learned that decomposing numbers to "make a ten" made adding quick and easy!

In Daily 5, we worked on learning our Letterland words with The Vowel Men; writing stories; reading fluently; and asking and answering questions before, during, and after reading fiction and informational texts. Oh and of course we continued to work on our reading stamina! We also had 2 volunteers come in to read with us and switch our Take Home Reading books! We loooove our volunteers! In reading groups, students practiced reading books and then answering comprehension questions in their reader's response journals. Remember that students reading on a level E and above must read the comprehension questions and respond in written form (independently).

We moved from Social Studies to Science and started our Compare and Measure Unit. We are discussing and observing how we are alike and different. We even traced our bodies to compare with our partners.

And as the students know... we work hard and play hard. So we definitely had some fun this week too. (lunch bunches, birthdays, and brain breaks...just to  name a few!)

Well done, Firsties, well done. Keep up the great work! I'll see you tomorrow:)

And Esli... I mean baby Esli... Is busy too! (Standing, cheering on the Panthers, and making me smile every single day:))
